 Community Advisory Committee (CAC)
From Home to School to Community

What is the Community Advisory Committee?

The CAC is an advisory committee made up of parents, professionals and community members from the 12 school districts, Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) and charter schools in the Southwest SELPA.

What does the CAC do?

The CAC serves as an advisory board to review and help develop the Local Plan for Special Education required under EC Sec 56190.  The CAC recommends annual priorities to be addressed by the plan.  They encourage community involvement, assist in parent education and provide support to families with children in special education.

How can you participate?

All CAC meetings are open to the public.  Parents and other caregivers are encouraged to attend these meetings where they can learn about what is happening in their school district, around the state and other important information about special education.

How do I become a CAC representative?

Each school district and charter is represented by 2 parents and 1 professional.  Contact your school districts Program Director and ask to speak to your district’s parent representative to learn more.

When and where are the CAC meetings held?

The CAC meetings are held 5 times throughout the school year.  They are on Wednesdays from 7 – 9pm at the Southwest SELPA office, 320 Knob Hill Ave., Redondo Beach, CA 90277
